After a year of publishing Ten Fifteen (the length and width in feet of the Walden Pond cabin), I have decided to scrap the title of this newsletter and change the name to ‘a secret plot.’ The change is minute, but important. Last year, at the height of the lockdowns, I had an idea to open up a small gallery space inside my studio. The idea was to show the art of other artists whose work I like and respect and to try and build a community. But times were strange and the continued uncertainty proved to be a bigger problem than I anticipated. I also started working full time and the increasing demands on my time meant that I had to make the choice to focus on my work first before I could focus on the work of others.
Now, more than a year later, it is clearer to me what I want to do with the space and how to go about it. By changing the name I am effectively merging the two components of art and writing into one coherent whole. A secret plot will thus be a gallery and a publishing outlet, focusing on art, theory and gallery happenings. The publishing section of a secret plot is already expanding and will be publishing essays from new voices to add to its perspective. A secret plot gallery will soon follow. Stay tuned.
